Join me for this exciting series of eight Moroccan dance classes combining Moroccan cha’abi (street) and shikaat (Romangi) dance and discover great beauty and power amongst a supportive community of women. Ancestors of ancient fertility dances, these high energy dances combine powerful, subtle, lively hip technique, shimmies, with high speed turns, expressive gestures and dynamic expression to create a unique, beautiful form unlike any other. Free of charge and open to women of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of ability, students are invited to participate in final live performance at the MATCH for the Houston Fringe Festival (dates/times TBA/safety permitting) or virtually through video. Rehearsals continue in October.

Students need to have a hip scarf or dance belt for class and long scarves available for class (lively, trance inducing music provided). Please eat lightly before class.

Come to the first classes and find out more! Share with friends and family!

Classes include movement combinations and choreography plus warm ups and cool downs to develop and strengthen the body in preparation for class. Students also receive much individual attention in class. Cultural context of the dances, their origins and costuming are illuminated with discussion and links to film footage and/or photos. Please feel free to email me with questions, divinedances@gmail.com.

**Zoom instructions: No purchase necessary. Download Zoom and create an account free of charge at zoom.us. For security reasons, students without a working camera, will not be permitted to attend.

This program is supported in part by a grant from Dance Source Houston and a grant from the city of Houston and the Houston Arts Alliance.
